Join us for one of the original Whistler races. This peak to lake classic is a B.C. race staple with a downhill skiing or snowboarding leg on Whistler Blackcomb, a downhill mountain biking component in the number one lift-accessed mountain bike park in the world, the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, a run, canoe along the River of Golden Dreams and cross-country bike component. Sign up now for an iconic race in the place that knows mountain recreation the best.

TEAMS
• Teams composed of five to seven participants
• At least two members of each gender are required on every team
• Minimum age 13 years old
• Stage 5 requires 2 team members
• All team members must compete in at least 1 stage

Stage 1 - Ski/Snowboard Touring
Stage 2 - Downhill Ski/Snowboard
Stage 3 - DH Bike
Stage 4 - Running
Stage 5 - Canoe
Stage 6 - XC Bike


ONSITE CHECKIN
Saturday May 17th 5-7pm
Mandatory racer check-in at Event Office – Aava Whistler Hotel.
Captains can collect race plates / bibs and timing chip on behalf of team – but must bring completed waivers on behalf of each individual team member.

SCHEDULE
Sunday May 18th
Competitors in stages 1-2 upload Village Gondola at 8:30am. Stage 3 competitors upload the Fitzsimmons Chair at 9:00am.
Stage 1 starts at 9:30am.
Awards at 7pm. mainstage in Village Square


STAGE 1 | Ski or Snowboard Touring
Course: Roundhouse Lodge -> up Pikas Traverse to to of Tbars -> down to bottom of Tbars -> back up to Roundhouse.
2014 course (modified). Fastest time 20:46. Average time 25 minutes

Racers must load Village Gondola at 8:30am.

Competitors will need to place their equipment in a designated rack outside the Roundhouse Lodge. Touring equipment must not be set up. ie. skins not attached, bindings locked into downhill setting.

Mass Start – competitors will run to the rack, put on their touring gear and proceed up to Pikas.

Either nordic, touring or telemark gear is permissible. Skins can be attached or removed as desired once the race has started. Helmets mandatory



STAGE 2 | Downhill Skiing or Snowboarding
Course: Roundhouse Lodge -> Pony Trail -> Papoose -> near bottom of Franz Chair
2014 course (modified). Fastest time 7:51. Average time 11 minutes

Stage 2 skiers/boarders may encounter dirt, rock and other unmarked obstacles and will have to run a section at the finish.

Racers must be carrying all their gear through the finish.

Racers must load Village Gondola at 8:30am. At the end of the stage, all racers will be upload Franz chair and download to Village via the Gondola.

Helmets mandatory


STAGE 3 | Downhill mountain biking
Course: Super Fantastic -> B-Line -> Funshine Rolly Drops -> Smoke and Mirrors -> Blueseum -> BLine -> HoChiMin -> Longhorn -> Monkey Hands. Finish in Skiers Plaza.
2014 course (modified). Fastest time 4:58. Average time 6 minutes
Racers should upload the Fitzsimmons chair at 9:00am.
Racers will need to pedal up the Mountain Road to the start at Super Fantastic.

Full face helmet mandatory


STAGE 4 | Running
Course: Village Stroll -> Turn left at Beacon Pub and Eatery (formerly Citta's) -> cross Whistler Way and head towards Whistler Golf Course -> Turn left on valley trail after HWY over pass -> Valley trail all the way around Golf course until bottom of valley trail near Crabapple Drive -> Valley trail out to Rainbow Park.
2014 course. Fastest time 20:16. Average time 26 minutes


STAGE 5 | Canoeing (2 people)
Course: River of Golden Dreams -> Green Lake
2014 course. Fastest time 41:28. Average time 51 minutes

Canoeists must land on the north side of the fence at Green Lake Spit. One canoeist must run from Green Lake Spit to the start of XC bike stage (across the railway tracks , next to the driving range). Canoeist can exit the canoe and begin running before the canoe is on shore.
Racers must obey all instructions of the CN railway crossing marshals – failure to do so will result in a disqualification. Racer’s time will continue to elapse even if racer stopped at train crossing.

Mandatory portage: competitors must not go over the fishladder, they must portage over the small dock and trail.

Canoeists must wear a helmet (can be a XC bike helmet). Life jackets and bailing bucket also mandatory.

Teams need to organize their own canoes for the race. There are a number of outfitters in Whistler that offer rentals. Below are some options:

STAGE 6 | Cross country biking
Course: transition is on gravel path across railway tracks (next to driving range). Proceed to Lost Lake (Zappa Trails) > Jelly Roll > Sons Of > Like your Pants. Cross to other side of Lost Lake Park via Treacherous Cretins. Central Scrutinizer > I’m not Satisfied > Why Johnny Cant Read > Grand Wazoo. From Beach Hut continue on Lost Lake Loop / Lost Lake Road – connect with gravel road to climb to start of Roam in the Loam. Exit Roam in the Loam, follow dirt road past Base II station and descend Haulback to Skiers Plaza finish.
2014 course. Fastest time 30:58. Average time 40 minutes



CUT OFF TIMES
Cut off time to start each stage:
Stage 2: 10:45am
Stage 3: 11:00am
Stage 4: 11:10am
Stage 5: 12:10pm
Stage 6: 1:45pm


APRES and AWARDS
GO Apres: Participants (over 19+years of age) will receive a token to enjoy an icy cold Whistler Brewing Company beverage at participating establishments throughout Whistler Village
Awards will be at 7pm on the GoFest mainstage (Village Square)
Prize money: 1st $750 | 2nd $500 | 3rd $300


EQUIPMENT
Racers are responsible for all their gear / equipment. No storage or transport is organized by the event.


LIFT ACCESS
All competitors in the Ski/Snowboard Touring, Ski/Snowboard Downhill, and Bike Downhill stages will require a lift pass or ticket to upload.

2014/15 Whistler Blackcomb Winter and 2015 Whistler Bike Park passes will be valid for access on the Gondola and the Fitzsimmons chair.

Discounted (price $12) one upload lift tickets will be available for racers in Stages 1-3. Tickets must be purchased online gsewrace.eventbrite.com and will be available for collection at the Saturday captain meeting.
